Landscape Desgin Concept
Landscape design plays an important role to create a story connecting the past through to the future. This is achieved by working with existing topography and its skillful manipulations. The designed landforms suggests visitors a variety of activities including focusing, contemplating, imagining, challenging and enjoying.
1. Enclosure
The site has a rich topography and through its manipulation and addition, our design aims to provide settings to focus on commemoration and contemplation. The Ceremonial Plaza is framed by gently waving terraced mounds. The approach to the Outdoor Memorial goes through a cut out of a mound and visitors’ view are controlled to focus on the Memorial Mound where remains are enshrined.
2. Transience
Flowering trees and wildflowers provide an ephemeral beauty. Their flowers stay only for a brief time before they fall off.
The Outdoor Memorial is placed in a flowering deciduous forest where visitors commemorate under beautiful flowers, vibrant coloured leaves, and stark trunk silhouettes.
3. Flow
Landscape design flows through from Memorial Building to Ceremonial Plaza, Outdoor Memorial, and a series of exercise and playgrounds.
It takes advantage of the linear shape of the site and the continuous flow navigates visitors deep into the park.
4. Challenge
Active and dynamic topography in Civic park provides exciting setting for visitors. Steep slopes and a creek crossing are physical challenge to all ages.
5. Experiment
The Climate Change is currently an obvious threat to some planting species. To adapt such unforeseen future, Civic Forest becomes a testing ground for new tree species to the region. Visitors walk through the forest while learning the impacts of Climate Change and experimental tree species
